How To Make A Good Research Paper: 5 Basic Writing Rules

Writing a good research paper is not an easy task. Research papers are hard to write because of their complexity. They require that you do some really thorough research on a topic of your choice and then work to present a main point that is supported by information. There are some basic rules that you should consider when you are starting to write your paper.

  1. Conduct solid research
  2. Once you have decided on an idea for your paper, you will want to conduct some solid research to learn as much as possible about your topic. This will help you start to work towards understanding as much about the topic as possible so that you can write a solid paper.

  3. Plan ahead
  4. Once you start to understand the topic a little better, you can start to develop a plan about what you want to write your paper on. You will choose a main topic and make an observation about it. This observation is what you will prove in your paper.

  5. Use a format
  6. If you have not been requested to use a certain format for your paper, you should find one to use anyways. This could be as simple as an extended five paragraph essay format. You just need to make sure that you are including an introduction, body, and conclusion. There are some great formats that teach you how to set your paper up and those can be a helpful tool. You can always find a sample paper to use as a guide.

  7. Use transitions
  8. You will need to include transitional phrases which will link one topic to the next. They will help your paper flow smoothly and help your reader understand when you are transitioning to a new topic. You should aim to really show a link between the two topics for the best results. You can use them at the beginning of every paragraph or at the end. Some writers will use on at the beginning and at the end of every paragraph. However, if you choose to do that you need to make sure that it doesn’t sound tedious.

  9. Proofread and Edit
  10. Make sure that you proofread and edit your paper. You need to concentrate on finding and fixing all of the errors that you may find in the text. The more times you read through your paper, the more errors you will find to fix.
